Picture It - Usher "Lil Freak" Music Video Idea

For today’s Throwback, I’d like to share a music video idea for Usher’s “Lil Freak”.

We open on the outside of a large manor, it is thundering and lightning outside. The nicest of the nice cars are all parked out front. We then switch to inside the manor where there is classical music playing and some sort of soiree happening, but something is a little off. Everyone is dressed in a Victorian style meets contemporary style of dress and wearing Venetian style masks. The whole feel is of an eerie/supernatural wonder. There is a loud crash of thunder and the lights flicker on and off revealing Usher at the top of a huge winding staircase, with women sprinkled on the sides.

The song starts, Usher descends down the stairs, everyone in the party starts moving again. We see one of the women on the stairs whisper in to his ear “You want me to get you something daddy?” on cue with the song. He begins to sing the first verse and he interacts with the women on the stairs doing choreography as he makes his way down.

By the first chorus he strolls through the crowd in the main front area making his way to another room. As he walks about women end up joining him forming a group.

The second verse shows Usher and this group enter a room full of silk aerialists, also wearing Venetian style masks. He interacts with the silk aerialists in various ways as well as the aerialists interacting with the group of women that followed Usher. By the second chorus he is lifted in the air by the aerialists and is transferred higher and higher where there seems to be no ceiling by the silks as if the silks are alive themselves. He disappears into the air. Nicki Minaj appears at the other end of the room signaling for the women to follow her through two big double doors.

We are then on the other side of the double doors as they swing open revealing Minaj and the group of women. She takes them down a long hallway as she performs her rap verse. The hallway has large windows with curtains flapping about. Also in this hallway are large portraits of Minaj in various looks, these portraits appear to be alive as they rap along with the real Nicki walking down the hallway. As they make their way down the hall the group of women dance suggestively around Minaj as if they are trying to be picked to be taken to Usher. By the time they reach the end of the hall, another set of huge double doors swing open revealing a big ballroom.

The last chorus is a big dance number in this ballroom. The ballroom is partially lit by the ongoing lightning outside. Male and female dancers accompany Usher. The female dancers are the same group of women who were following Minaj. By the end of it, Usher has chosen someone. They then dance alone to the breakdown at the end of the song and suddenly disappear.
