So after Missy Elliott made a surprise appearance during the Superbowl, she reintroduced her music to the younger generation who isn't too familiar with her. By doing this she gave everyone who is familiar with her work a reminder that she still got it. I expressed how I would love to work on Missy’s team to help contribute to her pop music come back.
With that being said, I would first release a greatest hits project allowing her music to make a strong promotional impact with those unfamiliar with her musical talent. This would make it easier for casual listeners to get a feel for her without having to locate her music online.
Then I'd love to organize a small tour spanning across different markets, theaters, venues, or clubs. Marketing Missy Elliot would be so much fun. I'd have her recreate her different iconic looks via past advertisements but each ad would foreshadow the resurgence of the new Missy.
A retrospective special with Q&A's during the tour would engage her fans and would be on a separate day in the same city... with her talk about why she loves music, what inspires her creativity, and etc. A honorary pitch to Vh1 or MTV for a Missy Elliott special would be the icing on the cake. It would almost be like the retrospective but to a larger crowd. Then we would prepare for the launch of something brand new. The big TV special could premiere the new single, so all of this would simultaneously lead up to her resurgence but we'd switch gears with a new concept for the new era when the song drops… I can’t really say what type of concept I would build around her new music yet but it’s brewing…
